My favorite Bible verses for eating disorder recovery

A lot of people have been wanting me to talk about eating disorder recovery and my faith in God. So, I wanted to share some of my favorite Bible verses for eating disorder recovery.

God has played a big role in my recovery, and what this looks like is as follows:

  • Talking to God like He is my therapist (because He lowkey is —> He’s called “Wonderful Counselor” in Isaiah 9:6)

  • Praying to God to give me strength to fight

  • Journaling out my thoughts to myself and God

  • Getting support from Godly community (usually this is my close friends and family)

  • Using the YouVersion Bible app (not sponsored at all, just LOVE this app!)

  • Going to church / watching church weekly

  • Reading encouraging Bible verses. (emphasis on encouraging!!!)

This last point, Bible verses, is what we will be focusing on here today! So I am going to provide Bible verses, and affirmations from them that I hope you can apply to recovery and use to replace eating disorder lies with truth.

Bible Verses of Encouragement

  1. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 4:10

Affirmation: I will not be afraid. God is my strength.

  2. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" - Matthew 6:25-26

Affirmation: God is in control, so I don’t have to worry about food or my body.

  3. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

Affirmation: Whenever I am anxious, I will respond with gratitude and focus on things that give me peace.

  4. "With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall." - Psalm 18:29

Affirmation: I can overcome my obstacles and adversaries. I will put in the work, and God will strengthen me.

  5. "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." - Psalm 56:3

Affirmation: Faith is the opposite of fear. So, I will approach every fear with faith in God.

  6. “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” - Mark 12:31

Affirmation: I deserve to show myself love. The Bible literally says I need to show others the same love I show myself. So loving myself is IMPORTANT!! :)

I’m sure I could share so many more Bible verses, but these are ones that are especially helpful for me. If you want to go look for a few more, here are some I love that I posted on my Instagram stories one day!!

Hope this helped you!

Sending love,

xx tori
